With over a year since the huge success of Bryson Tiller’s last album, TRAPSOUL, fans have been wondering when he will drop his next album.
“True to Self” is the name of his new album and once he’s done, it is ALL OURS.
We all know Bryson Tiller has dropped numerous hints about his music:
Back in October, he posted a picture on Instagram with the caption, “Album almost done.”
In December, he featured in Gucci Mane’s single “Drove U Crazy” and he also tweeted out, he was working with Drake. “Started some vibes with Drake today. more life”
We still may have to wait for the release date but at least we know the new album is almost done ! A lot of people are anxious and excited to hear his new music.
Below is Bryson Tiller’s actual tweet:
Just earlier this week, Jermaine Lamarr Cole’s, newest album, “For Your Eyez Only” went certified gold. Now, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, he releases a new single that expresses the oppression we witness today.
His new single, “High for Hours” produced by Elite & Cam O'bi reflects on current issues regarding ISIS, the revolution and the time he met with President Obama.
“Feelin’ nervous, sittin’ in a room full of white folks
Thinkin' about the black man plight, think I might choke
Nope, raised my hand and asked a man a question
Does he see the struggle of his brothers in oppression?
And if so, if you got all the power in the clout
As the President, what's keepin' you from helpin' n*ggas out?”
J. Cole went on to say Obama encouraged him to keep fighting and to never stop believing in change. Another important topic was the actions towards equality. Cole says we cannot try to solve issues using violence because it only leads to a cycle of brutality.
Who knows maybe fans are right and this could be a sample of a mix tape in the near future.
Producer Elite and fans on Twitter, were fast to express their feelings on the song ....
" My intuition is telling me there'll be better days, I sit in silence and find whenever I meditate
My fears alleviate, my tears evaporate, My faith deviate, ideas I don't have a date..." [Song, Change]
Jermaine Lamarr Cole, I have been a fan of his work since way back when the warm up was released. What hooked me was his way of storytelling. My favorite kind of rapper is someone who uses their platform to express meaning. Now, I still enjoy all that 'turnt up' music but what I really like to listen to on my way to work, at school or even when I am studying, is a rapper with great lyricism.
This review is simply based on my own perspectives. You might not agree with me, but this is simply just my opinion. Let’s get started....
To begin, I like to listen to albums by myself before hearing what the reviews have to say or what my peers think of it. I begin by letting the album play, with no stops. I replay the entire album multiple times but now I am paying attention to his lyrics, the meaning, and the beats.
J. Cole makes use of numerous instruments, sounds and harmony’s.
At first, I was hearing a lot of comparison about the album. People were telling me that "4 Your Eyez Only" was good but "2014 Forest Hills Drive” was better. I have a problem when people voice that because you cannot compare an album he released two years ago, to what he released this month. J. Cole was in a different place two years ago, he had a different message with Forest Hills Drive. Now in 2016, there are different events, different aspects in his life that has influenced his writing. He is married now, and a father, he is not the same he was two years ago, same goes for anyone like you and me. If J. Cole would have never released Forest Hills Drive, and 4 Your Eyez Only was released people would receive it the same way they received Forest Hills Drive.
I mean c'mon people, he released an album and TWO singles with video. Which, these two videos have already been viewed more than 4 Million times in just one week.
"4 Your Eyez Only"
I personally really enjoyed the album; give yourself time to listen to it fully. Not just once, but two or three times or even more! Really pay attention to the stories and the way he connects them to his life, and situations around him. Another important fact, a lot of the album is not from Cole's perspective but he does speak on his personal life. Think of it as a story so start from the top and work your way through.
ALL songs were great but these are just some I will get into detail.
What I appreciate most about J. Cole is how he makes sure we, the audience knows who worked on his album with him and how much effort was put into his projects. He is an extremely humble guy, and he wants us to know that it is more than just about him. It takes a whole army to produce albums, concerts, videos, and a documentary . He lets us see a glimpse into the behind the scenes work and voices how those people behind the camera are just as important as those in front of it.
When J. Cole released his HBO documentary, it was not just about his experiences, but rather the stage producers, lights, sound, and most importantly his fans.
Overall, I really enjoyed "4 Your Eyez Only" Every song has a meaning, a purpose and a great beat. This man raps about his life, his friend’s encounters and what we, as fans see.
I just want to say...
THANK YOU COLE & the Dreamville Team, for giving us REAL music.
